Guide

How to promote your SaaS on Reddit without getting banned

Short answer: treat Reddit as a place to be useful, not a place to advertise. Build a real account history, read each community's rules, post things that are worth reading even if nobody clicks your link (lessons, numbers, teardowns), disclose that you built the product, and use the self-promotion threads where communities ask you to. For paid reach, use Reddit Ads.

Before your first post

Posts that earn upvotes

What you learned

“What I learned getting our first 50 customers.” Specific mistakes and numbers. The product is context, not the point.

Something free and useful

A template, checklist, or small free tool that solves part of the problem with no signup wall.

A teardown or comparison

An honest look at how people solve the problem today, including tools that aren't yours.

A feedback request

Where the rules allow it, ask for real feedback on a specific question and engage with every answer.

Writing the post

Disclosure: I'm building [product], which does [one line]. Happy to answer questions about it,
but everything above works without it.

What gets founders banned

Vote manipulation

Asking friends to upvote, or using several accounts, breaks Reddit's content policy and can get your account suspended.

Posting the same thing everywhere

The same post in many communities at once looks like spam to filters and moderators.

Hidden affiliation

Praising your own product while posing as a customer is a fast way to get called out and removed.

Link drops

A title and a link with nothing else rarely survives in communities that allow self-promotion at all.

Replying beats posting

Where Meg fits

Meg doesn't post to Reddit for you. Its lead finder finds recent Reddit and X posts from people asking for a product like yours and drafts replies you can edit and send yourself, and you can ask Meg in chat to help draft a post in your voice.

Questions

Is self-promotion allowed on Reddit?

It depends on the community. Reddit prohibits spam and vote manipulation site-wide, and each community sets its own rules on promotion. Read them before posting.

Should I use Reddit Ads instead?

If you want guaranteed reach, yes. Ads are labelled and allowed. Organic posts work best when they'd be worth reading without the product.

How often can I post about my product?

There's no universal number. Most communities that allow it expect you to contribute far more than you promote.
