What the searches look for
Each search combines your words with phrases people use when they need something. These are the same three signal types Meg's Hunter scores.
| Signal | Phrases included | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Buying asks | “looking for a tool”, “is there an app”, “what do you use for”, “any recommendations”, “can anyone recommend” | People shopping for a fix right now. Answer these first. |
| Pain points | “how do you deal with”, “tired of”, “struggling with”, “takes forever”, “hate doing” | The problem is real, but they may not be shopping yet. Help first. |
| Switching | “alternative to”, “switching from”, “moving away from”, “replacement for” | People leaving a tool. Only built when you add competitors. |
Getting good results
- Use the words your customers use, not your marketing copy. “Chasing invoices” beats “accounts receivable automation”.
- Searches open sorted by newest and limited to the last month, so you see conversations you can still join.
- If a search returns noise, remove the broadest word or add a subreddit.
- Before replying, read how to reply without getting banned.
Questions
Why does Reddit search miss some posts?
Reddit's own search can be patchy. The Google version often finds threads Reddit's search misses, so run both.
How is this different from Meg's Hunter?
This tool gives you the searches; you run them and read every result. Hunter runs searches like these on Reddit and X for you, scores each post for buying intent, and drafts a reply you can send.
